How much does a stairlift cost?
Whether you are deciding to purchase a straight or curved stairlift, you need to know the price of it. How much will it cost? There are 5 factors that need to be considered when it comes to price. The most important piece of advice we at Cork Stairlifts will give you when starting out, is to tell you to take your time. You MUST do your research and get all the relevant information. Not all stairlift companies are the same, not all stairlifts are the same, so you can’t rush this decision. You have to weigh up ALL the factors because this is a big investment. We advise you to find companies with a proven track record, who guarantee you great value for money and excellent service from start to finish. Whatever stairlift company you choose, you must receive a top quality stairlift at the right price. So ask yourself the following 5 questions.
1 : Are you eligible for an €8000 stairlift grant?
You may be eligible for an €8000 stairlift grant which could offset the cost of a new stairlift. The Mobility Aids Grant Scheme is available to those who qualify. It is means tested. It’s available from local councils to everyone, irrespective of age or circumstance. The combined income of everybody in your home must not exceed €37,500. Priority is given to people on the basis of medical need and you will need a tax clearance certificate. The Mobility Aids Grant Scheme is available to you whether you own your own home or you live in private rented accommodation, voluntary housing, a rental subsidy scheme or a communal residences. 2 : Should you rent or purchase your stairlift?
The price of a stairlift sometimes depends on whether it’s more cost effective to rent a stairlift rather than buying one so carefully consider the pro’s and con’s of each.
Advantages of renting
- Renting allows you the chance to try the stairlift out before purchasing it.
- Over a short time period (couple of months or so), renting works out cheaper.
- When you no longer need to rent your stairlift, the fee should also cover the removal of your stairlift, so you don’t incur any additional hidden costs.
Disadvantages of Renting
- After a number of months, if you continue to need your stairlift, it’s will prove to be more expensive than purchasing it in the first place.
- If you need a long-term mobility solution, renting is not the cheapest option.
- Purchasing a good quality reconditioned stairlift is a cheaper and better option than renting in most instances. For more information phone our office (021) 432 0052 or visit our website on https://www.corkstairlifts.ie/reconditioned-stairlifts/
3 : Do you need a straight or curved stairlift?
The type of stairlift that require depends on the shape of your staircase.
Straight stairlifts are installed on stairs that run straight up and down, with no bends. Cork Stairlifts stock a wide range of top quality stairlifts at very competitive prices. You can choose a new or reconditioned straight stairlift depending on your budget.
Curved stairlifts are installed where your staircase has a turn or a bend it in. Each one is custom built to suit your individual staircase and your individual needs. They can take 4-6 weeks to manufacture and deliver so are more expensive than a straight. As an ISO certified authorised installer, all our engineers are certified and full trained to fit in a wide range of custom built curved stairlifts. So whether it’s new or reconditioned we promise to provide you with a top quality reliable curved stairlift, at a very competitive price. 4 : How reliable is the stairlift company you are dealing with?
Not all stairlift companies are the same so their pricing is not the same. Company’s vary widely in terms of response times to phone calls, reputation, staff numbers, how long have they been in business, are they locally based, level of aftercare service and back-up support. You MUST do your research in this regard because when a company sells you a stairlift, that is just the first step in the process. Stairlifts need to be maintained and serviced and when there is a breakdown you need to make sure that your stairlift provider gives you the reliable after-care service that you need. There are 3 questions that you should ask to help you determine how reliable your stairlift company is.
a : Have they qualified staff to answer your query?
When you need them, how quickly will they answer the phone, out of office hours and on bank holidays? This is critically important. If your stairlift breaks down on a Sunday, do they have the staff to answer your phone call when you need them? Because we are ISO certified, every phone call received is logged and audited and receives an immediate response. Cork Stairlifts will give you an immediate response because we are there for you, when you most need us.
b : Do they have adequate breakdown cover?
It’s very important to determine the level of breakdown cover that your stairlift company provides before you purchase a stairlift. A lot of company’s operate as sole traders so if you need someone to call to your home, they may be elsewhere doing something else and may not be available. This is very common. Cork Stairlifts on the other hand, have a full team of office staff and engineers who are on call every week-end and bank holiday to deal with any issue that may arise. Some stairlift companies do not have the same level of reliability because they operate as sole traders so if they are on holidays, there may be no cover. The last thing you want is to end up stranded. So avoid this situation and do your research.
c : What guarantee will you get?
Every model of stairlift is different in terms of reliability so you need to find out what warranty your stairlift provider is giving you. This is fundamentally important. Some stairlift companies give a 12-month warranty on parts and labour. Others will give you a 2-year warranty and 10 years on the motor. Cork Stairlifts will give you a full 3-year warranty and we guarantee to stand over your stairlift for as many years as you need it. What does this mean? In terms of reliability, we will keep your stairlift going for as many years as necessary. And we put that in writing. We believe it’s your long-term peace of mind, after we’ve fitted your stairlift, which is the most important thing. 5 : Are there any hidden costs after installation?
Installing your stairlift is sometimes only the first stage of the process in terms of cost. You might think that you got a good bargain but please remember Buyer Beware! Customers don’t realise the hidden costs that some companies charge their customers after the stairlift has been fitted. The price of your stairlift may appear to be cheap initially, but do your research because after sales costs can be quite significant. These include the following :
- Call-out charges vary widely from company to company and may or may not be covered under warranty.
- The cost of replacement parts (if they are not covered under warranty) can be extremely high depending on the stairlift provider.
- Extended warranty options are offered to customers (as optional extras) which cover breakdown calls, servicing, and other such call outs.
- After-sales care plans which include maintenance, emergency call-outs, parts and labour are offered at an additional price on top of the initial cost of your stairlift.
Cork Stairlifts will sit down with you and choose the best stairlift for your particular staircase and needs and we will charge you one price only. There are no extras only one cost and we will stand over your stairlift for as many years as you need it. We don’t believe in additional or hidden costs. Everything is agreed up front and put in writing so the price doesn’t change. As a local, professional and reliable stairlift provider, we believe that you should not have to pay for extended warranty options or other unnecessary extras.
